Tuesday in Toronto, Wednesday in Beijing

So, do you have Olympic fever? I'm trying to but with the 12 hour difference, it's a little hard trying to follow what did happen and what might happen.

However, I do have some observations:

"Aqua-Man", Michael Phelps has more gold medals than the country of Canada has total medals.

So does Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Togo, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Not combined. Individually! Amazing or crazy? Seems Canada is focusing on the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver/Whistler. Good luck.

You gotta be kidding me?! The Spanish Men's Basketball team posed for this picture for the Olympics. What were they thinking? Is this some sort of weird Spanish humor that I just don't get? Or is it just a case of bad judgment?

For those of you who follow the Toronto Raptors of the NBA, read what Jose Calderon had to say. This is not an indictment on the Spanish or Jose. However, it is a mistake that needs to be apologized for. The sooner, the better.

I wonder what will happen first: An apology or a medal. Your thought, as always, are welcome on the ORIGINAL POST.

  1. Calderon can try and write it off as a misinterpretation of their intentions, but the fact remains that the photo is tasteless and offensive. There definitely needs to be some kind of apology.

  2. When I went lived in a town which was 95% Caucasian, my friends called me 'Brown Guy', not because they are racist, but because my skin is brown and I was the only brown guy for miles around. The nickname sticks to this day and it never offends me because it is being said in kindness.

In my opinion this photo reflects poor judgment, but to call it racist is stretching a bit.

According to Jose Caderon (someone who was actually there at the time) it was taken with good intentions, however in today's ultra-hyper-supersensitive politically correct world, one can't even wear a scarf without offending someone.

If a Spanish team photo were to be taken outside with the athletes wearing touques (winter hat) for the Vancouver games would it deemed offensive or racist?
